Juan Opertti, is Mechanical Industrial Engineer, graduated from UDELAR, with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the UCUDAL in agreement with St. Thomas University (USA), with emphasis on Business and International Marketing.

During the period 1997 – 1998 develop an executive training in Supply Chain Logistics and Ports at the Katoen Natie Foundation in Antwerp, Belgium.

He has held positions of supervision and management in the metallurgical, oil and textile industry, focusing on Free Zones Logistics and Operations.

He was Director of the Textile Foundation of Uruguay as well as also of the Association of Large Energy Consumers of the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay. To this day he is Director of Logistics for South America of Belgian group Katoen Natie, company with 9,000 employees in 27 countries with port terminals and platforms logistics.

Katoen Natie in Uruguay is a shareholder of the Terminal Specialized Containers Cuenca del Plata, Zonamerica and Costa Juan Opertti as the counterpart of the Belgian partners in the undertakings. In the guild area, Juan is Executive Director of the Chamber of Free Zones of Uruguay from 2008 to date and presidio in representation of the private sector the Transport and Logistics Cluster (2005-2009), representing the CZFUY in the National Commission of Logistics (CONALOG) (2009-2011).

He has been Managing Partner since 2008 consultants Hemistion www.hemistion.com and OPERAL Ingeniería Logística www.operal.com.uy.

He has developed projects in Uruguay as well as in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala and Paraguay.

Academically he is professor of Operations and Logistics of the Universidad ORT in national and international postgraduate courses in said University, as well as invited professor to the Postgraduate of Management Technological Department of the Faculty of Engineering of UDELAR. Is a guest lecturer of the management development programs and for senior executives of the Center for Emerging Logistics and Supply Chain (CELSC) based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA He has been a Lecturer since 2012 at ICESI University, Cali, Colombia in the courses of High Management. Has developed consultancy for the World Bank, UNCTAD and ECLAC with regard to processes public-private partnerships, as well as writing with respect to Uruguay as a Platform for International Business in the areas of Logistics, Ports, Free Zones and Offshoring.

During the period 2007-2009 actively participated from the private sector in the Distribution Logistics process for Ceibal Plan laptops (OLPC).

Since 2004, he has been a guest columnist for El Observer.

Has participated in representation of companies on official visits by the Uruguayan Government (2005-2010) to Ecuador, Spain, Portugal, USA, Belgium and China. Today also finds integrating the advisory staff of Family Business Directories in Uruguay, with regard to investment projects and professionalization of executive cadres.
